VENOM TACTICAL

COTTONMOUTH

Rifle Review

By Mark Flinn

My Venom Cottonmouth is the highest quality precision rifle I have ever owned. Where do I start? Everything about this custom hand-built rifle shows the innovative design and attention to the smallest of details that make up this rugged and reliable firearm. I took possession of my rifle in October 2009, and have been amazed by the performance and accuracy every time I press the trigger. So far, I logged 1684 rounds of Federal 168g Gold Match in my logbook.

Lenny Bolton is a Master Engineer and he hand-built my rifle exactly to the specifications I wanted, with the quality and precision that he demands of each Sniper rifle that leaves his shop. During the construction of my rifle, Lenny guided me through the many steps to produce an accurate, custom-fit “Bang Stick” that is compatible of extreme accuracy. Hell, the first three rounds out of this rifle were ¼ MOA at 100 yards. Read more here.

Remington 870 Shotgun Sling Carry & Presenting to Target

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Remington 870 Shotgun Sling Carry

‎2-Point Sling! If you use a 2-Point sling on your 870 shotgun, you have two choices, Muzzle up, or Muzzle down. Even if you cross your head with the sling, it will be one or the other. Muzzle down is the preferred method for a quick response to a threat. Lenny Bolton and Mark Flinn give you some insight as to how you should present your shotgun from the slung position on ATACTV Firearms Channel.

Many times you will be carrying your shotgun by your sling. Learn how to sling your Remington 870 Shotgun and while maintaining control of your shotgun. When a target is presented and you have determined that you need to get your shotgun as fast as possible on the target, it is important that you get your muzzle towards the threat ASAP. Lenny and Mark show you both versions, muzzle up and muzzle down sling carry and presentations.

Socom 16 Combat Reload

Socom 16 Combat Reload

Mark Flinn and Lenny Bolton with ATAC TV Firearms Channel demonstrate the proper way to manipulate the Socom 16 when you run out of ammunition. The Combat Reload is an important training procedure that must be trained and become an instinctive reaction. You have presented your firearm to a target, fired some rounds and whether it’s paper bad guy or adversary, you need to shoot now!

The combat reload is really simple. Exchange the empty magazine in the firearm with another that contains ammunition.  Of all the training procedures required to properly maintain your rifle in firing condition, the combat reload maybe the most important.  Your Socom 16 is only useful if it is loaded and operational. It does make a great club, but is much more effective with a stack of .308 cartridges inside the rifle. Now that is firepower. Here is the combat reload procedure:

  • You are firing; trigger goes dead, immediately your trigger finger goes straight.
  • Roll the rifle slightly so you can look into the ejection port. You see bolt locked back and no ammunition in the port, it’s empty.
  • With the rifle still mounted, support hand thumb pushes on magazine release lever and removes the magazine from the rifle and drops it.
  • Acquire loaded magazine from carry pouch, insert into magazine well and lock into place.
  • Support hand reaches under rifle; rack the operating rod handle back as you roll the gun over to chamber a cartridge.
  • Back on sights and target.

This procedure takes practice and you should be training to become proficient. Also, this should be included into your Dry Practice to develop muscle memory and top performance with your Socom 16. What can be more important than keeping your rifle running when you really need it to go bang!

How to get your SOCOM 16 loaded fast after you shot it out of ammo. It will happen, so train for it! Lenny Bolton and Mark Flinn take you step by step in exchanging the empty magazine for one that has cartridges loaded in it. No time to waste, you need to practice this and get it down fast. SOCOM Sling Carry

I LOVE THIS RIFLE.  Socom 16, a version of the M1A family.  Great shooting firearm, and packs a kick.  Mark Flinn and Lenny Bolton with ATAC TV Firearms Channel show how to mount the 870 shotgun to control recoil.

Not sure how to present your SOCOM with a two point sling rapidly? The SOCOM is a nine pound rifle; it’s heavy and when not in use it is often carried muzzle down on a two point sling. Lenny Bolton and Mark Flinn demonstrate the simple and effective sling carry while maintaining control of the rifle. They also demonstrate rifle presentation from sling carry towards the target, taking a shot then how to safely sling the rifle when not in use.
